The College of Fisheries, part of Mindanao State University Buug, is a distinguished institution in the Zamboanga Peninsula, recognized for its excellence in education, research, and commitment to peace and development. As a distinct degree-granting school of the University, the College offers undergraduate programs, including a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and a Diploma in Fisheries Technology majoring in Fish Processing. Its mission is to set high standards in instruction, research, and sustainable management of aquatic resources, particularly in the Sibugay region. The college aims to accelerate the development of fisheries and other aquatic resources, address the immediate and long-term challenges faced by local fishermen, and disseminate critical information to the public. Established initially in 1982, the college has overcome challenges, including multiple relocations, to continue its mission of producing skilled graduates and developing sustainable projects. With the support of local governments, the College of Fisheries remains dedicated to fostering peace and sustainable development through education and community engagement.

Mission

The College of Fisheries is committed to set standards of excellence in instruction, research, extension, and production as well as accelerate the exploration, management and sustainable development of the aquatic resources in the Sibugay region.

Goals

As one of the academic units of Mindanao State University – Buug Campus, the College of Fisheries aims to:

  1. Accelerate the development of fisheries and other aquatic resources.
  2. Respond to the needs of fishermen in the region by relating research to immediate and long-term problems.
  3. Disseminate information to the public on the solution of problems relating to aquatic resources.
Objectives
  1. To produce quality graduates who can respond to the needs of the Sibugay region for proper conservation and management of fisheries and other aquatic resources.
  2. To offer curricula programs in order to produce deserving students who will become future educators, researchers, aquatic resources managers, aqua culturist, fish processors and entrepreneurs.
  3. To develop and operate income generating projects for milkfish and tilapia grow-out ponds and processed fisheries products.
